Each have unique tactical and strategic advantages.
Also I give the edge to SW as well because of starfighters. You can destroy capital ships with Y-wing bombing runs for instance.

Surprisingly, this would be the scale tipper.
The Federation could (and would) "transport" any number of persons (say, Emperor, Sith, ship command structures) and "hold" them (like Scotty did in that TNG episode). Completely removing them from the battlefield.
