re: OT parents: would you rather catch your HS senior child smoking pot or drinking?

FTR, I currently have a son who is 18 and a HS senior. I know that he and his friends drink on some weekends. Hell, some teenager is having a party around here practically every weekend at which drinking takes place. We've had a couple of very serious discussions about it. My points to him have been very clear. NEVER drink and drive or ride with anyone who has been drinking, and know when you've had enough. Will he heed what I've told him in every situation? I don't know, and no matter how much you stress these things to your kids, you'll never really know either. You can only feel secure in knowing that you've done the best that you can do and try to worry as little as possible. Believe me, if they are determined to drink or smoke, you're not going to stop them.
