Instead, I followed a recipe that said to whisk Creole mustard and champagne vinegar in with the pepper jelly. I didn't have champagne vinegar, but the recipe also said that apple cider vinegar was an acceptable substitute.

I didn't like it and it all went in the trash, despite my New Year's Resolution to waste less food.

I took the bites to the meeting without sauce and people seemed to enjoy them.

When I make them again (and I will tweak the recipe), I will figure out a good sauce ahead of time.

I appreciate your update.

My first instinct was to say that you didn't need a spread or a dip.

Your attempt at making a dip failed miserably, and you reported this is as it was.

Props to you for truth in reporting , as always.
