Yes. But there was no invasion from the West or other Soviet enemies that ran into sack Moscow is what I was getting at.
If anything, they joined the system the US and the West had built.
eta: Point being, our power may reduce and we may cut our own feet from under use by overspending, but American territory is by and large safe from outside powers.
