There is really no reason not to designate him as a post-June 1st cut unless they plan to use that on someone else (unlikely). The only thing is that we won't receive any additional cap space in 2017 until June, so it won't help us in this FA period.

Like you said, we get two guys to use the designation on, and only Byrd and Strief makes sense to use it on.
I see Strief hanging on one more year so pretty clear they will use it on Byrd.

Couldn't we just sign over the cap by the amount we expect to get back after June? I know teams can go over but not sure the parameter
