"Flattened" is a better word. Flat would be impossible but what i mean is as opposed to more angular. Thanks for the correction.

Angular up or angular down? Ideally, bat path will have a 10-25 degree up angle through the zone and at contact. Every pitch thrown by a softball player...every one....that is in the zone, comes in at a downward angle. Matching that with an up angle increases the length of time the bat is in the zone.
