The reason that GOPers hate Vietnam Vets is because we had a perfect record until then....Donald Trump expressed the majority opinion of the right when he said that McCain was only a hero because he got caught and he (Trump) liked people who didn't get caught....the GOP not only likes those who didn't get caught more than those who did but they also like winners better and Vietnam Vets weren't winners at war....

Have y'all ever really supported a candidate who was a Vietnam vet? I know you ain't had many because most of your guys recieved deferments and what not or kept Charlie out of Mobile, Alabama...

Here is the one thing that you need to know about the right and Vietnam Veterans and how low the right holds them...there ain't a soul on the right who doesn't beleive that there weren't Vietnam Veterans spit on when the returned from Vietnam...yet other than anecdotes there is not a speck of evidence to support this myth...not a single person was ever arrested for beating some spitting hippies arse or, more importantly, there is not a single shred of evidence of any spitting hippies needing medical attention for having spit on a returning veteran...yet the right believes this with all their heart...which in fact what they are suggesting is that Vietnam veterans were a bunch of pussies because not a single one of them put a spitting hippie in the hospital...that is much more insulting than insinuating that it is possible to get a purple heart for a paper cut.....

I was in the local chapter of SDS when I was at UGA and I went to several protests including the March on Washington.

All the lefties I knew were telling everyone eligible for the draft to do anything they could to avoid serving.

That's when people began burning their draft cards to make a public stand against the Vietnam war.

I don't remember Max Cleland or John Murtha but I do remember that John Kerry wasn't vilified until after he threw his Purple Heart away to protest the war.

Fake news.

The GOP supported the war and the soldiers who served in it.

They just hated the way the war was being fought. They wanted to fight it to win not to fight it half-assed like it was being fought.

I never spit on a Vietnam vet when they came home and I don't know of any "hippies" who did but I know several of my friends in SDS did.

If you weren't alive at the time or not old enough to know what was going on at that time then don't tell me who was there and involved in the protests what I need to know about what was happening back then and what the right wingers were doing.
