The Good War by Studs Terkel
An oral history that gives some micro accounts of how the war affected Americans - those on the battlefield and the homefront. The title is somewhat of an oxymoron - WWII battles tore some folks up psychologically - it's not associated with WWII vets the way it is with Vietnam vets. War is hell.
