CrossFit is just one type of exercise program... Some people like to lift weights... some people like to run.
There are plenty of people that "check in" on FB when they go to Planet Fitness or Anytime Fitness.
There are plenty of CrossFit people that don't "talk about CrossFit"
No matter which workout regimen you choose the long term benefits to exercise are the real reason to do it.
I'm in my 40's and I started CrossFit about 5 months ago because I wanted to try something that I enjoyed more than a gym or running. So far I've been very pleased with my results and the variety of exercises that we do.
I don't have any aspirations to make the CrossFit games and I don't really even push too hard on the workouts. I use it to maintain my flexibility and overall strength. I can see it as something that I will do for a long time.
I did sign up for the CF Open this year as part of a group workout with my gym. I'm looking forward to going through the workouts with my friends over the next 5 weeks and then we will probably have a crawfish boil at the end. Sounded like a fun experience.
