The fact that there was a real rivalry between their navy and army is pretty amazing. So bad their army developed their own submarines and boats.

All military branches have a rivalry but the Japanese army and navy basically hated each other. Goes back to bushido clans, some went Army and some went navy and for generations families would only serve the service of their forefathers.

I also think the way Japan destroyed China is interesting. The scale of the carnage over the better part a decade is insane. It's also interesting that the US didn't really pursue as many war crimes against the Japanese as they should have.
