Was his property "posted"? Did he request that the trespasser vacate his property? Did the alleged trespasser comply?
If it was indeed trespassing and the alleged trespasser did not comply then anybody, not just a LEO, can make an arrest or force a removal in that situation. Where it might go wrong for the officer is in the presentation of the weapon.
