Without getting too technical. Your hypothetical is impossible for two reasons. 1. You can't travel at light speed and 2. Nothing can go faster than light speed.
But even so when you throw a ball it's moving away from you. It's reference frame is traveling relative to you.
When you add things like time dilation into the mix it can help account for why to the observer on the ground it would not break light speed.

What if we developed technology allowing us to travel 1 mph below the speed of light? Could we launch an object forward from, or inside the craft at 2 mph?
