People really don't know a lot about what hr does.
My wife works in HR. She makes bank.
They have to put up with and deal with a lot of shite because all grown men are children apparently.
Where there is a union, there is a hated hr rep.

HR is a great field but they do not handle the truly messy situations. That's why we have attorneys.
The HR field also has a much lower income ceiling than other professions unless you move into the independent consulting role.
As far as the respect issue, it's a person by person call...regardless of educational backgrounds.
