The players aren't playing to lose. You're simply biding your time and collecting assets so that you can win in the future. That may mean trading away your best players for draft picks and getting young players.
It's like saving money. You might have to do without some things in the short term in order to be comfortable in the future.
You are making the best moves possible to ensure success. Sometimes that means temporary pain. If you are looking at winning in terms of a franchise, sometimes temporary losing is the best option to ensure long-term winning.
It's simply a rebuilding process, and it takes time.
