My 11 year old has one. We don't have a house phone and he gets off the bus and is alone for 30 minutes or so a day. So far he's been really responsible with his own iphone.

If there were smart phones when I was 11. Those 30 minutes would've been a monkey-fisted pornhub session every damn day.
