When I was coming up in the '70's these were the guys, along with Jim Taylor, Tommy Casanova and Bert Jones.
Maravich was somewhat famous right after he left LSU, but let's face it, basketball was always in the shadow of football until Shaq came along.
If I had to name the 3 most well-known LSU athletes, I'd have to say Shaq, Maravich and Billy Cannon.

Went to NYC in 1971. Wore my LSU sweatshirt. Was asked all the time about Pistol Pete. I was amazed and how many people knew about him up there and followed his career.

I'd argue basketball was equal to football during at least part of the stretch from 1979-93. I was at LSU in the early-mid 80s, and the excitement and energy surrounding LSU basketball was as high as it was for football.
Sweet Sixteen 5 times between 1979-87
Final Four in 1981 and 86
Elite Eight 4 times between 1980-87
From 1979-93 made the NCAA Tourney every year but 2
