because he perished. had he'd still be alive today, it would not be named the p-mac.
shaq is bigger than pistol

I see a lot of mention for Pistol Pete. I just don't think you can pull a random person off the sidewalk, show them a picture of pistol and get a correct answer.
It's not about facial recognition, it's about name recognition.
And everybody has heard of Pistol Pete Maravich and knows he was a flamboyant, high-scoring basketball player.

Every guy knows who Odell Beckham is. I couldn't even tell you what pistol Pete looks like honestly.
again, it's not facial recognition - it's name recognition. Good lord, people.

Pete also had a movie made about him.

I'm sure many of my friends aren't that familiar with him. But they all know the name Odell Beckham.

I guess the real question should be: who is the most famous LSU athlete ever (besides Shaq) that is recognized as having gone to LSU?
Those who mentioned Lolo being known more on an international level due to Track & Field's recognition probably don't know she was a Tiger.
Those who aren't football fans, or are only casual football fans only know OBJ from his off the field persona - and probably don't know he went to LSU.
Fact of the matter is - we all follow sports so likely know where anyone on an MLB, NBA or NFL roster went to school - most people in America don't.
All of this being said, I think it comes down to who made the most noise while at LSU, and Pistol Pete wins that argument hands down.

Act like you are older than 15 man. OBJ isnt close to the "most famous" LSU athlete ever.

It is criminal how undervalued and unappreciated Bob Pettit is these days. He had the greatest career at LSU and until Shaq was the greatest pro athlete the school had ever produced. He constantly battled the greatest team in basketball history and was a huge star in his time.
He isn't famous anymore, but I'm pretty sure his 30+ years of fame will blow away Lolo..

not trying to be a dick, but how old are you? Serious question.

He is about 15. Its what you are going to get here. 15 year olds who don't even know who Pistol or Shaq are or people so damned old they refuse to think a player in their "era" cannot be surpassed.
Reminds me of arguments with my nephew. He is 20. He never even saw Jordan play other than a youtube clip here or there. He swears Lebron has surpassed him already, all the while resting in his Lebron Pubic Hair Hammock.
