If conservatives would just stop taking a stance on social issues, we would probably have a larger support. Smaller and more efficient government is what the people deserve. Unfortunately we have decided to stick our nose into social issues with outdated ways of thinking. We've alienated the gays, blacks, Mexicans, Muslims, and so many other segments of the population who would have fitted right in had we not been so stupid.
And Donald Trump isn't helping matters either.

Donald Trump has run the most socially progressive campaign of almost any major party candidate. You can see all the goodwill that's engendered.

Trump got more support from those groups than either Romney and McCain did.
Oh and Trump is the most pro LGBT and most secular republican President ever so I'm not sure what you're seeing here.
