Congratulations, you have fulfilled your mandated and filled your depth chart:
1) Deshaun Watson
2) Landry Jones
3) Antonio Pipkin
FA money spent: $9 million
Draft picks spent: R1 (#2 overall)
Your QB depth chart basically amounts to a starting job for Deshaun Watson, as Landry Jones isn't a big enough name to hold off a #2 pick.
That may work out -- as Watson's an experienced 3-year starter with the confidence and swagger to survive some early season troubles. Ideally, you'd like him to have a better veteran mentor in that locker room, as Landry Jones is still untested himself. In fact, Landry Jones may be annoyed to be here -- he came to SF to compete for a job, not play caddy for the franchise's golden boy.
Adding to that, Antonio Pipkin is the kind of raw QB that will need his own coaching -- and may not get it with the coaching staff focused on Watson.
You're throwing Watson to the wolves, without much help. This could backfire.
grade: C+
