how about the people that are already here? Cause we have quite a few here that have regressive attitudes.

I am fine with the laws part, but customs is a bit vague as is assimilate.
I really don't have an issue with revising our immigration rules, but I would suggest that needs to go through congress.
I do generally believe that immigrants are good for our community regardless of their origin. Especially due to the hurdles we put in place to enable them to come to the US. My experience with new immigrants is that they are usually a lot better people that the people that live here already.
