Actually, it's not "their" company. Each troop is self autonomous and operates solely on the funds that they take in from the members of the troop. They are usually affiliated with local churches and sometimes with public schools, but the vast majority through religious organizations.

I can tell you that for many troops this is the final straw.

My son is currently in his first year of Scouts, and this could be the last as well. To be honest, this topic has never come up or been an issue in his pack/troop. I don't think we're going to see an issue with it like folks out west might, but eventually, it will probably be an issue everywhere to some degree. Our troop is sponsored by the local VFW and I know it at least used to be associated with a local church, too. I guess I'll have to keep my eyes open and see what's going on and if they address this topic at any point.

Sad that this is where we are.
