Sharpton is an idiot, but I'd be interested in someone explaining in what way Jesus and his earthly family didn't fit the definition of refugees? They fled to Egypt to avoid Herod I's decree that all male children be killed due to his fear that a "King of the Jews" had been born among them who would someday threaten his crown. So there is a political element here, and tangentially a religious one (Herod wasn't really a Jew and constantly feared being seen as illegitimate and being replaced by the Jews).

noun: refugee; plural noun: refugees
a person who has been forced to leave their country in order to escape war, persecution, or natural disaster.

I think someone already attempted to do so. Your dictionary definition of a refugee (can't look up the US statutory definition at the moment) is "someone who has been forced to leave their country ..."
The poster equated it to Jesus leaving Oklahoma and going to California, as Jesus was within the Roman Empire. Is this wrong? I don't know what all locations encompassed the Empire.
If we're going to do a literal reading of the definition I think it's fair to point out what role and authority Herod had, what land he controlled, and if such land was indeed a country.
