re: Does the fire department invoice for putting out a fire?

During the floods this past summer, I had to threaten to call the sheriff on some guys that were doing donuts in a boat in the high water behind my house. The wake from their stupidity was starting to hit the side of my house. Turns out it was a district fire chief from St. George. The guy was a total idiot.

When do they send their yearly rate?

They didn't charge me when they put out a fire at my house. Truth be told, I was kind of naive about things like that and frazzled from the fire and straight up asked them when I should expect a bill. They just laughed and told me to have a better day and left. Good people.
Similar story for me, although it was from a broken pipe and not a fire. I asked the guy how much would the visit cost me, he said it was my tax dollars at work.

They give you a name? I gotta know.

So you're saying that my tax dollars go to put out fires that aren't even mine? What a waste, privatize that shite and be done with it.

Do you know any firemen? I do,and every one of those SOBS are crazy firebugs. You could probably get them to pay you for coming to put out your fire.

A number of municipalities will invoice for showing up for a false alarm, or a fire such as a brushfire determined to be your fault. But that's usually about the extent. Depends on the fire department.

Seriously how do some of you survive?

Are you seriously asking if the fire department charges for putting out fires? They are funded by tax dollars. The insurance doesn't pay for people to put out fires, they pay out to the people whose property burned down.
Its just like police. Do the police charge you every time they have to direct traffic or some shite?

And yes people can get billed (invoiced) from the fire department if they live outside the city limits.

This family, like many others, elected to not pay their annual fire service bill,” Williams said in an email. “Others in their area pay Rural/Metro for fire protection.”

A lot of rural volunteer departments will send an invoice. I had a truck burn on the Sunshine bridge years ago and got 2 invoices from 2 separate volunteer departments.
