It would depend on the bitrate used, compression algorithm and image format.

A lot of that is managing gamma curves in certain light spectrums. Canon has a 120 megapixel camera that is supposed to come to market later this year and a 250 megapixel sensor set to go into a commercial camera sometime in the near future. I can only imagine the amount of storage a 250 megapixel image needs.
