There are a lot of people that have made a lot of money off them and there are lazy Americans also.

I don't know if lazy is the right word but certainly unethical cheating bastards...and that goes to anyone who rents them a house, sales them a car, sales them groceries, banks with them, provides them with cell service etc etc etc etc

Immigration from the south became a "problem" when we curtailed programs that allowed workers from south of the border to enter the US legally on a temporary basis to work in agriculture. This practice had been ongoing since the end of the civil war...and many of those workers didn't go home when the cotton was picked...they ran small businesses (restaurants and the like) and worked as groundskeepers and landscapers. These people have been part of the South Western US since the founding of this country....there have been people crossing the border to work since time out of mind....the problem is that they are illegal now and have been for some time and as such subject to even greater exploitation from unscrupulous people who live off taking advantage of their status.

Western Europe, particularly Germany, had the same problem with the collapse of the USSR...people from former Iron Curtain nations flocked west looking for work and opportunity. The citizens despised these "foreigners" (my co-workers in German, all German citizens told me a million times if they told me once that they should have built the wall higher instead of tearing it down....) but the government realized that they were going to come and that doing things like building walls and deporting them would only force them further from the light of day and therefore subject to even worse exploitation...so with the stroke of a pen they built the most effective wall EVER...they made them legitimate employees....and made it a VERY serious crime to EMPLOY...not work...BUT EMPLOY someone without the proper paperwork allowing them to work as a foreigner...and lo and behold the problem was solved...the attraction of hiring an illegal worker is suddenly not as pretty when that person is eligible for all benefits.

We don't need a wall, we don't need deportation squads...all we need is a piece of paper issued to illegals making them legal employees and make it a very serious offense to employ anyone without that paper and to knowingly trade with that person in any way....and suddenly the attraction of illegal workers is non-existent.
