First off, you'll need materials. All the rule books, and class guides for 5th edition can be quite expensive

The DM has all of this, he has been preparing for a couple of months.

Should I buy the players guide?

What the frick am I getting myself into?

I'd get the player's guide just so you know the boundaries of your character and what he/she can do. That way you're not trying to make your half-retarded orc trying to cast spells or some such nonsense.

I have little experience with 5e. Hopefully it's more simplified than what I last played with. Got way too complicated which is a big reason I stopped playing.

Has your group, or DM settled on a campaign? There are some new ones that seem fun.
