I don't know why it wouldnt work with a fireTV. Works with my Roku's just fine. I have the 650 but they're basically the same remote.
eta: apparently fireTV doesnt accept infrared. That's the issue.

Right. Think I'm just gonna go pick one up. If I don't like it I'll give it to my parents or get a roku
