Production value is decent. Production went overseas several times. No ads in shows. The cost of a prime membership can't possible cover production costs of shows such as this one.

Market share.

Brand.

Netflix and Prime don't have to but it's in their interest to do so. What else are the going to do with all the money they make?

I imagine they make money on international distribution for a show like that, right? Can sell it to air on TV in France, UK, etc.?

Potentially you could sell it off for domestic syndication further down the line as well.

It's all part of Amazon's plan to rule the internet. A lot of people don't know this, but Amazon Prime comes with Amazon Music, which is free, but they've introduced Amazon Music Premium which grants access to something like four times the amount of songs find in the basic and it has a monthly fee. They will likely eventually do the same thing for Video, until Video and Music are both like Audible originally was before they introduced Audible Streaming Channels.

At some point, all your subscription services will run through Amazon.
