There are no historical "rights" or entitlement for territories. Whomever controls it calls the shots because they won the most recent war and have the current rights. Don't like it? Don't lose wars. It's not pretty or PC, but it's fact, and it been that way since the beginning of time (I was there).

Arabs attempted several times to retake the land but couldn't - and in fact lost more land in the process.

People don't like it, but this is reality.
