Drive through the pasture all day and never see a thing. Go back at night with a q-beam looking for pigs and woodcocks are flushing left and right next to the truck in the exact same area

They sleep in the thicket all day and eat in the fields all nite. Nocturnal is the correct definition.

Probably not legal but way back in the day....I knew a kid....that use to fill up a crawfish sack full of woodcock by walking around in fields with a spot light and a dip net. Just like catching frogs.

Yes they are. The LDWF goes out in fields st night with a net and a spotlight to capture and band them.

Where are you located where you have a field full?

1hr 30min from Houston. I have a GSP that just turned 1 yr old but I haven't really gotten her trained all that good yet

Also is it illegal to shoot them at night?

Illegal to shot at night, your dog doesn't need training, it needs wild birds and it sounds like you have them. You should be able to find them in the daylight in the woods/ cover around the fields
