I think 2-3 days in Venice is a perfect time to decamp and relax. Can take a day trip to the surrounding islands one day, explore Venice another, or take a day trip to Verona which has some well preserved roman buildings i.e. Coliseum and the fake Romeo and Juliet balcony, if you are into the Bard.

Ok. I'll look into Venice more. Most people I talked to and/or read about Venice said one full day max. I figured that we could have a mostly Northern Italy/Switzerland trip at another point in my life.

Quick question regarding Amalfi Coast boat excursions. How rough is a boat excursion? Wife doesn't exactly have sea legs.
