This thread is hilarious. Etling is a better option when compared to Harris. It doesn't by default make him good. 90% of the fan base can't be objective and that's fine most fan bases can't. But if Etling was on any other SEC team would any of you be scared to face him? Would you worry that he could beat your defense with his arm? I wouldn't be at all. And if you removed your P&G glasses, neither would you. Are any of you impressed with Austin Appleby at Florida?
Etling was bad against Jacksonville St. He was worse against Auburn. In the 4th year of his college career he looked like a true freshman vs Bama and didn't eclipse 100 yards passing. In 2 of his "great games" LSU set a single game rushing record in both! Think about that. In another Guice had 250 while Fournette had over 100.
But we just need a game manager like Matt Mauck! Explain to me how a game manager sets a single season passing TD record. This will be Etling's 5th year as a college QB and he's about to learn an entirely new offense. Expecting him to make some great improvement is asinine
I've also seen ITT well stats don't show qualities like poise and awareness. Know what else they don't show? How many times Etling checks the ball down on 3rd and long far too early guaranteeing LSU won't convert. Remove your feelings and fandom and make a rational observation. It isn't hard TL;DR if Etling was on any other team none of you would think he's good

To add to your comments, its not just LSU in its failure to develop QBs. Its a SEC (League-wide) issue. Except for Ole Miss and Miss. St. (Bama to an extent), QB play in this league has been under-whelming in the last few years. Fans in the deep south have become so accustom to seeing mediocre QB play, and so enamoured with the rushing attack, QB expectations is very low. We have become infatuated with the "game manager". There is nothing special about a game manager. And yes, a "game manager" WILL ALWAYS HAVE LOTS OF ROOM TO IMPROVE.

However, I'd be terrified of what Guice could do to my defense, and I'd be pretty damn nervous about Chark.
The fact that Etling doesn't detract from Guice, and has a good connection with Chark, all of that together, yes I would be worried.
