It's not so much that they purge records. Citi has an 18 month rule. You can't get a bonus from Citi if you've opened or closed the same card in the last 18 months. Chase has a 5/24 rule. American Express only allows one bonus per card type in your lifetime.

They changed that a short while ago. No more than one bonus within a 24 month window within the same "family" of cards. Family = AA, TYP, HHonors etc. Sucks.

So basically now I am churning Alaska and MS with what I have. Haven't applied for a card in 5 months.
