I was saying that to myself everytime they showed the next contestant's site. I've posted in the previous Alone season threads about this as well.
I don't understand why they wouldn't build a tall & wide log style cabin complete with a fire wood drying set up & stacking up the rocks for a fireplace.
I wonder if they have restrictions on what they are allowed to build by the show or by the host country...?

I think it's a little bit of them getting their bearings, seeing if where they are at is an ideal spot and not over-exerting themselves with no water or food sources established.
It only showed a few people on episode 1, still have like 6 others out there. Some may be doing this. Also just depends on how they cut and edit the show.
