I don't think progressives love ISIS though. There issue is not that they can't distinguish between radical-Islam and moderate-Islam it's that they refuse to do so.
If you say there is no difference then the leftist would assume that all Islam is moderate and the far righties would assume all Islam is radical.
We know this is not true.
The same can be said with "white supremacist" except for the fact that white supremacist are not killing people to the level that ISIS is in 2016.
The "alt-right" can be totally taken out of this comparison. The alt-right is simply a collection of weaponized autistic people fighting the great meme war of 2016 on the internet.

very few leftists believe that and only a small minority of righties believe that
the vast majority of everyone understands there are secular muslims, moderate muslims, islamists, and jihadists. the prog narrative is that they don't even like using the term "Radical islam" so that (a) they don't group all muslims together as radical and (b) to not embolden the radicals by legitimizing them
this EXACT argument applies to the "white supremacists" and "alt-right", but the progs are pushing THAT narrative. they are both grouping all of their opponents as the most radical opponents AND emboldening the extremists at the pole by validating them as a bigger portion of the main group than they are
i mean frick, they're even doing the "if you don't publicly criticize and isolate yourself from the radicals, you're enabling the radicals" argument. that is literally the exact argument they criticize with the muslim angle
