This new stretch oozes of the Curly Hallman era. O could prove me wrong and make a run... However, the Athletic administration was in money saving mode back then. They just wanted to to turn a profit instead of putting an emphasis on a sport like football. I remember a friend of mine at the time got me a tour of the LSU athletic facilities. Once done checking it out, got a chance to chat with my friend's contact in the department there. One of the things we touched on was the earlier days. He had said they were not concerned with making the splash hire. He said Joe Dean was only concerned with "not losing money". AS long as football was profitable, the head coach was a successful hire.
IN this current case, with state budget issues, it looks the same. The admins get to actually drop the pay check of the head coach. Les will likely have a job soon to cut his buyout. I really feel this all ties in with the school deciding that it's not worth it financially to try and compete with the greatest coach college football history. They've decided to mail it in, put the program on cruise control and monitor it to stay profitable.
I don't live in Louisiana anymore, and I understand there's a financial problem that's affecting the school. What I don't get is how it can be in such a shite storm that states like Mississippi and Alabama are well enough to not have to worry about what they pay their coaches.
I'm really surprised the TAF big boys were ok with this direction. O must have impressed them enough with the two top candidates bailing out.
Tough to see a program with such potential get squandered.
