Bolton in January: US should play 'Taiwan Card' against China

Fairly obvious that he's the SoS pick

For a new US president willing to act boldly, there are opportunities to halt and then reverse China’s seemingly inexorable march toward hegemony in East Asia. Playing the “China card” in the times of former US president Richard Nixon made sense, but the reflexive, near-addictive adherence to pro-China policies since then has become unwise and increasingly risky.
quote:
An alternative now would be to play the “Taiwan card” against China. The US should insist that China reverse its territorial acquisitiveness, including abandoning its South China Sea bases and undoing the ecological damage construction there has caused. China is free to continue asserting its territorial claims diplomatically, but until they are peacefully resolved with its neighbors, Asian nations and the US are likewise free to ignore such claims in their entirety.
If Beijing is not willing to back down, the US has a diplomatic ladder of escalation that would compel it to pay attention. The new US administration could start by receiving Taiwanese diplomats officially at the US Department of State; upgrading the status of US representation in Taipei from a private “institute” to an official diplomatic mission; inviting the president to travel officially to the US; allowing the most senior US officials to visit Taiwan to transact government business; and ultimately restoring full diplomatic recognition.
Beijing’s leaders would be appalled by this approach, as the US is appalled by their maritime territorial aggression. China must understand that creating so-called provinces risks causing itself to lose control, perhaps forever, of another so-called province.
Too many foreigners continue echoing Beijing’s view that Taiwan is a problem only resolvable by uniting the two sides as “one China,” but Taiwan’s freedom is not a problem. It is an inspiration. Let Beijing contemplate that fact.

Looks like a third GW term!
Hell... Jeb might have been playing the long game!

This doesn't seem like a GWB type move.
Hell, if Trump is the negotiater we think he is maybe he can reunify Korea using Taiwan as leverage

John Robert Bolton (born November 20, 1948) is an American lawyer and diplomat who has served in several Republican administrations. Bolton served as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations from August 2005 until December 2006 as a recess appointee by President George W. Bush.
That's what I'm referring to.
Personally, I think its a big mistake to get deeper into the oriental's affairs. I don't understand the need to insert the government into china Taiwan problems and I certainly dont see how we win getting further into the Korean problem.

I get it, I know he's a neocon. But, this move, this is not a neocon move

I know a lot of guys who despise their ex-wives but still love their ex in-laws. One might not have much respect for the Bushes but that shouldn't be held against Bolton just because he worked for them.

Hah.
Bolton and his war mongering neo con overlords set policy for GW. They made up his entire cabinet. It seems like you don't really understand how these people are connected or what their philosophy is. Bush was a tool for these turds. Now trump is putting them into his admin.
So like I said, looks like Jeb might have been more successful than we thought.

I'm not sure how you figure that, but I'm ready to be educated.

Then Rand Paul and a couple other like minded republicans would have no problem filibustering him with democrats helping them out.
Bolton is the worst possible pick Trump could make. And the backlash will support that notion. Appointing Bolton to SecState is basically the the closing thing we have to committing a legal and non violent terrorist attack on the rest of the world.

This analogy is horse shite and you know it.
Bolton is way radicalized in neoconservative orthodoxy than Cheney and Rumsfeld ever were. He makes Bill Kristol dovish as hell.
Goddamn when are you shite head original trumpkins start shitting on obviously terrible picks? Are people who openly trashed trump count for only just that?

That's not a Pandora's box you should feel comfortable opening just because the so called God emperor is in the White House.
You break it, you buy it.
You know better than this.

The US commits acts of violent terrorism all over the globe and John Bolton begs for more. he is a terrorist. There is no other way to look at it.
Right now the world's foremost conflict, iraq and Syria, are a product of a DOS program and philosophy gone wrong. Syria has HRCs fingerprints all over it. Iraq has Paul Bremmers fingerprints all over it. Bolton, UN Ambassador during the Iraq debacle II, is in record saying We didn't do enough.
All of these people are neoconservatives or neoconservative allies and all of them worked with the DOS. The DOS is an insidious and destructive organization that has been at the center of our fricked up foreign policy since well before the Kissinger days.
For the record, I'm not sure that Bolton is actually a neocon. I don't think he was ever communist, just a fascist terrorist with designs for a global hegemony at any cost.
If trump picks this person, then he is buying Boltons Philosophy. We saw what that got us from 01 to 08.

So you're saying someone who worked for WalMart and fully endorsed their way of doing business can not switch jobs to Target and endorse their way of doing business? He'll always be a WalMart man?

Sure there is, don't be obtuse. This doesn't help your argument.
