Instead replying with asshattery, perhaps you should tell us why this idea is stupid. Read below...

quote:

What is crazy about the idea of Taiwan eventually becoming a U.S. territory and perhaps state at some point in the future? It wasn't long ago the idea of Hawaii as a U.S. state seemed absurd.

Hawaii is a U.S. State for one purpose: Military strategic value.

Taiwan has the same value. And if the Taiwanese ever wanted to at least become a U.S. territory, I'm sure the U.S. would strongly consider it considering how close it would put our military to China as a military counter to China.

Plus, if Taiwan became a territory, we could pull troops from Japan and maybe South Korea. Japan would love us for that. Taiwan would love us for protecting their independence from China. And China and North Korea would think twice about dumbfrickery in that that region.

Nothing but win.

I don't necessarily believe Taiwan will become a territory or state any time soon, but it's not beyond possibility. The U.S. has many territories spread out across the globe. Several in the Pacific. Taiwan loves democracy. Loves independence from China. Taiwan also knows China could destroy it at any moment. The only reason Taiwan is still independent is because of the political backing from the United States.

If Taiwan had to choose between becoming another territory of China or a territory of the United States, I think it's pretty clear who Taiwan would choose as their overlord.

Fact is, they'll likely need to make that choice sooner than later. They have a hungry tiger climbing their back fence. Only a matter of time before that tiger is rampaging in the back yard...
