Do films like Last Picture Show (and its sequel Texas City) and Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil fall into this category?
What about Southern Comfort?
O Brother Where Art Thou? (Another Coen)
Of those choices, I probably lean towards either No Country or Last Picture Show, but I'm not sure how broadly/narrowly this genre should be drawn.

I even hesitated listing No Country because I'm not sure if it falls into the more traditional, small scale Southern Gothic movies like Sling Blade or Mud. Those really feels raw and more authentic than No Country, they also have a very small budget feel to them which the coens do not.
