Most common thing I've seen lately is women changing their last names when married but also changing their middle name to their maiden name.

I think that's a good compromise and weeds out that liberal hyphen BS.

I did this. Part because I knew it would please my dad to keep the family name in my name and also because I absolutely hated my given middle name so this gave me the perfect excuse to legally be rid of it

Lately? That's what I have seen done my whole life. I thought this was the norm.
