I agree with you in principle, but I think Alleva was eager to name his coach ASAP so he could hit the ground running with recruiting and naming his staff. If Alleva gets in a pissing match with Texas over Herman, we probably still end up with O, but will have wasted several days to a week to get the same result.

Texas has bazillions. Frankly I'm glad he did what he did and cost Herman $1M a year and Aubie Trace Armstrong his percentage on that
