They don't want to get into a bidding war with Texas or Oregon, but hiring a national champion head coach from FSU won't be cheap either...

I think it's a bidding war with Oregon AND Texas that makes it untenable. Both schools have big money backers that at a minimum match LSU's money guys and in reality probably leave them in the dust. a 3 way bidding war escalates very quickly.
