The tough hire is the answer, NOT the easy one

I'm trusting that Alleva is going through a process to the find right coach for LSU, and not just running to the easy hire. The clock is ticking on a decision, as we wait for the regular season to unfold, as well as the December 12 recruiting dead period, which is rapidly approaching. With boards like TD, 247, NOLA, as well as the countless radio and TV shows weighing in what should be, we'd do good to remember a few facts.
When Nick Saban was was hired, he was neither the "easy" or popular hire. Though he went through his fair share of ups and downs, he set our program on a path for long term success. That same success helped his successor (CLM) stay a float for years to come. Many times, that which seems immediately right, is so because its supported by a simple logic. Sometimes the logic, is too simple.
I personally do not believe that Jimbo, nor Coach O, are the long time answers for our program. I think that the answer is probably a "not so sexy" hire, who brings innovative offensive ideas, with a commitment to sound defense. We as fans are too ready to jump on a candidate's band wagon, using over simplified logic.
I hope that the big money guys aren't just willing to throw money at a name. I hope that they are being counseled by a team of "football guys" too. I hope that Alleva (and the big money guys) are truly going through a process.

Agreed. Posters jump on a name like puppies on a bone. Most here have tangent football knowledge at best. Some posts a article saying that "this is our guy". The board implodes, the bandwagon follows!

I'm really high on Bryan Harsin and think he should be considered.

Amazing how the media has engineered a 2 candidate discussion. Surprise is underway

I disagree, recruiting is the life blood of a program and Ed has proven he can recruit. I say keep Ed for 3 million and spend the money saved on a "name" coach on Aranda and a OC.

LSU sits in a literal vineyard of talent. Kids want to be here. Frank Wilson recruited well. Juluke is a great Recruitor. So is Craig. Hire a HC that's proven. As a head coach, coach O will have other responsibilities. Can't just be measured as a Recruitor. HC don't typically travel much to recruit.

And yet look how Saban has cherry picked our backyard

So you're not a good recruiter because Saban has done well here too? You're not going to get'em all. No one will change the fact that Saban is one of (if not the) best of all time. Lets not confuse the forest for the trees.
