Louisiana suddenly became such a moral state, especially Democrats and some in the middle, that people couldn't vote for a guy that fricked up 15 years ago and apologized for it, with no even hint of similar acts since.

Plus, despite incredible experience and qualifications, probably the highest/most that's ever run for the office, Vitter was kinda oddball in person and had also made a lot of enemies on the right over the years.
