The Pels need to #TTP
They may be forced into that this year.

They went the complete opposite of #TPP after drafting davis. It was a gamble, and that gamble failed.

There were many obstacles for the Pels to #TTP. First and foremost, and old and dying owner who didn't want to own the 29th or 30th best team for the entirety of his run as owner. People blame Demps (and he deserves blame) but let's not get it twisted that he is working with complete autonomy. Benson was clear that he wanted to compete as quickly as possible, and Demps did what he did to further that vision. If Demps wanted to implement a 3+ year tank after landing the best draft prospect since KD, he'd have gotten laughed out the door and fired the day Benson took control.

Second, as underachieving as the Pels have been, and as much as the injury bug has decimated the team every single year, they've never been bad enough to really tank without making it painfully obvious. The Sixers didn't tank by sitting 10s of millions of salary on the bench in an effort to lose, they just never had ANY talent outside of their legitimately hurt/rehabbing draft picks. The pels roster has been way too good to legitimately lose 70 games every year.

Third, we got our homerun pick first. It's a LOT easier to build a young, talented, cohesive core when your superstar is the last big pick. If he's your first big pick, you run into problems stemming from my first two points. Obviously I'm not blaming AD for being who he is as a player, but he developed so much quicker than a lot of top draft picks. To reiterate my second point, you really have to actively try to lose 65-70 games a year if you have a top 5 player on your team.

Really the only way the Pels could have embraced #TTP is if we had a fanbase strong enough to endure it (we don't), and owner willing to do it (we don't) and if we had traded CP3 for multiple first rounders a year early and drafted people like Boogie and/or Paul George in 2010 and Kyrie and/or Klay Thompson in 2011 followed by Davis in 2012.
