I don't think that's his issue. He said the screw goes in halfway. That corner bead is right at the surface.

Someone also suggested protection for wires, but I highly doubt they rain wires adjacent to a window.

There are really several variables at play depending on exactly where he is trying to put the screws. If it is near the corner, there are possibly corrugated joint fasteners that he's hitting. Also, what time of windows are we talking about? Wood? Vinyl? Fiberglass?

You might be hitting a Simpson header hanger, or similar. There are also wind shear straps that occasionally run on both the inside and outside of studs before sheathing - depending on wind load code requirements
