Mexico City is one of the largest cities in the world and a great combination of ancient, colonial, and modern culture. In June, it often rains in the afternoon.
Crime is comparable to New Orleans. Most areas are pretty safe and most murders are gang related.

Much, much safer than New Orleans. About 1/5th of the murders per capita.
Great city. La Condesa/Roma is an awesome area.
