After the game, there were signs at the state line put up by Ole Miss people saying Now entering Louisiana, set your watch back one second. The claimed the clock ran out before the last play. About the same you would have been hearing from Auburn if the replay hadn't changed the outcome. Wonder what would have happened if we had replay in 1972.

What a great ending! I remember everyone celebrating in the stands for a long time after the game ended.

What Ole Miss fans always conveniently forget is that just a year prior on their home field, LSU was driving for the winning FG and with 0:07 left, ran a quick out pass to the sidelines that put the Tigers in FG range. But the clock kept running, time expired and LSU was not allowed to attempt what would have been the game-winning FG and lost, 24-22.

Paybacks are hell.

It was a great game, too. Ole Miss led 21-0 and then 24-7 in the fourth quarter. LSU came back in the final minute to make it 24-20, went for the two-point conversion (so they could win it with a FG) and made it - then recovered the onsides kick, but after a couple of completed passes got screwed out of a chance to try the FG.

LSU and Ole Miss played some great games back then.
