OP, if you have a welder on your platford get him to make you a fish ring.
You take a metal ring about 10-12" in diameter, cut a slit in it big enough to pass your string through, then on the inside of the ring you weld 4 small metal rods about 1" long, then tie a piece of 1/4" rope to it. When you catch a nice fish you slide the string through the ring, lower it down over the fish with the rope and pull it up. Ask an old timer on the platform, they'll know what to do.

have used this many time on larger fish, for trout I used to use a small basket with a split ring to slip over the line, just lower on the 1/4" line and it's pretty easy to get them in the basket.
