Because people want a coach who has played in big games and won big games.
Herman has won big games not even big for Houston. Big for any team. If Alabama played a top ten team to start the season it would be big.
I guess the difference is Fleck is a big fish and a smaller pond. Herman is a big fish in a slightly bigger pond who has beaten fish in the ocean.

Herman has in the past. He has won TWO big games with another coach's players. He has also lost to THREE teams with much less talent than his with two of those losses coming in the last four games.
So yes, it appears Fleck is getting much better over time and Herman is getting much worse.
